"K-POP idol, What made this global music 'monster'?
How K-POP hit out big in Japan and to the world?
Why K-pop became so strong?"

This book is about these questions.
'The K-pop Idol Legend' can be described as a 'rebellion of the Abandoned Generation' in Korea. K-pop waves are originated from Destruction and defiance of young K-culture generation.

Dong Ha Kim, as an ex-journalist and present venture capitalist, director of Korean entertainment company, professor, and writer, shows how K-pop became so strong in terms of 'economic' and 'social' perspectives.

The K-pop of Korea, a small East Asia country, has spread out all over the world. Though it has been only 60 years after the Korean war, Korea has achieved very rapid economic growth and now its culture has gone beyond a leader in Asia and is soaring to a leader of world music. The youngsters called as 'K-pop idols' are in the vanguard of this phenomenon. A lot of people of the world think of the K-pop idols 'refined music and their fancy group dance.' Repeated catch melodies, singing ability, attractively shaped bodies, mystical dances and costumes, all those things have been so refreshing.

Then, we might ask how the Korean idol music could grow up and develop this far, considering that the 'idol group' is originated from Japan, not Korea. This cannot be simply explained with musical superiority or the growth of media by technical advancement of IT, SNS and so on. The proliferation of K-pop idol music may be the result of the complex of big capital market, social structure, intergenerational conflicts, IT competitiveness, educational problems, etc.

The competitiveness of K-pop and the contents of the Korea wave (hallyu) during this process comes from the voluntary efforts of the entertainment industry's young workers plus their accumulated experiences. Its social environment has forced them 'to compete' from a young age and they chose to be entertainers with their own free will for survival.
