Barbara Bond truly loves Amelia Island. You know it and feel it as she tells the wonderful story of friends who met while walking the beach, and the myriad relationships with which each deals. Her knowledge and love of the island give depth and meaning to her story. Her imagery, descriptions and knowledge of the beach, the wildlife and the history of the island are extraordinary. She has an easy writing style that keeps the story moving. Enjoyment is the true test of a book, and I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
This is a lovely book that gives you an authentic feel of what it is like to spend a winter on Amelia Island. More atmospheric than plot driven, it truly made you feel as though you were there. Although this is fiction I am assuming it is based on real life so that is how it reads, but there is enough plot to keep you interested and the friendships seem very real. I recommend it for anyone who wants to spend time at the beach and particularly for women of a certain age that need to know that friends are family.

did not believe characters became so entwined after just meeting casually on the beach.
As described to us one early morning, this book puts the reader in the sandy footsteps of the author as she navigates her way through retirement alone on this northern Florida island's Fernandina Beach. A great read for this reader ,very near to similar decisions, in a place much-loved.
